QuestionAzazel! Azazel, I.. I need your help. You might not agree because... it's not the Erik from our time, but... I care for him all the same... Answer

You’ll have it.

But start from the beginning, please.

What has happened?

“I am being literal. She’s very sweet. Got the whole teeny-bopper goth thing going on.” Anders couldn’t help but laugh at Azazel’s tone.

“Around the bend is a colloquial phrase that pretty much means going crazy, or having a mental breakdown aka major depressive episode. … That would be a good way to describe what spurred me to try suicide by drug overdose.”

“Sure. And why not?” Azazel said. Under his breath he added, “Bloody insane multiverse.”

Azazel sobered. “I can’t understand that,” he said, his voice a low growl. “Too many people have tried to kill me - would like to wipe my entire species out - for me to make things that easy for them.” He frown. “But I have seen that suicides are a very bad problem among Mutants.

“Why’d you do it?”

Azazel stared hard at Anders, suspicious that he was entertaining some unspoken argument inside his thoughts. Then he snorted and let the matter drop.

“Pushkin and Dostoyevsky and Leo Tolstoy,” he rattled off. “Maxim Gorky, Mikhail Bulgakov, Mayakovsky.” He paused, and added, “Erich Maria Remarque and Victor Hugo.

“In English,” Azazel continued, “Orwell and Jack London, Upton Sinclair. And Steinbeck, above all of the others.”

“Ah, you like the rugged individualist types, combined with what exposes the numerous horrors, faults, and bits of pettiness that homo-sapiens possess. Makes sense also with your political leanings. And then there is the touch or adventure as well, depending on which of the Hugo books you like. I do like Hugo though, Les Miserables and the Count of Monte Cristo. ” Anders rubbed at his scruff. Book choices were always rather telling. Unless one was like Anders who liked a little bit of everything. Then again, if you pinpointed his favorites, then those would be telling about himself.

Nyet,” he said, waving that first away easily. “The individual is a myth. I’m not so interested in that.

“But it’s true that I like stories of struggle. And why not? Life is struggle. It’s good to read how people fight together when they are facing hardships. It teaches lessons.

“This is what makes Steinbeck very good; he understands the suffering of oppressed people, and writes on the need to unite to fight for one’s right to survive. Hugo is not quite so good as Steinbeck - he is softer, and too sentimental.”

He paused. “And you? What books do you love?”

I assume you mean what I’m holding, I can’t see if you made a gesture or not. By feel, it is a long metal stick. By knowledge, it is a blind cane.

“I can see that much for myself,” Azazel said dryly.

He paused, his hand going to the back of his neck, kneading at the tense muscle. He caught himself at it and dropped his hand, embarrassed. “I suppose you’ve suffered some injury?”

“ehhh…. Sort of. I went around the bend in a bad way a little while back. Had my friend Death take my sight. Once my head calms down and I have a good schedule to keep me tame, She’ll heal it.”

“I’m choosing to ignore that part about being friendly with Death,” Azazel said firmly. “I might have said that death and I are friendly, too, but I have bad suspicion that you are being literal.

“Around the bend?” he repeated, cocking his head questioningly. Then he remembered about the blindness, and added for Anders’ benefit. “I don’t know what this means.”

Question*waves... slightly off target, but he's aiming the welcoming gesture at Azazel. In his other hand he holds a long white cane with a red tip.* Answer

Azazel raises his own hand in greeting.

He cocks his head to the side, frowning. “What is this?” he asks, gesturing vaguely at the cane.

Bonus points if you do it as a fictional character of your choice. Seriously, those ones are fun.

“Slow” sounds very nice. I’ve been too busy with work for Brotherhood, I am afraid I’ve fallen out of contact with many friends and comrades.

Erik runs a tighter ship than Shaw ever did, but is good to feel as though we are making some sort of progress, I think.

((Are you pre or post-Cuba, my friend?))

[[Technically post-Cuba, but since the Shaw acc. has turned up, he’s left the Brotherhood and joined up with him again. ^^]]

Ah, I see. I hope it hasn’t been wearing you down too much, my friend. That is most unfortunate, though I suppose you will hear from them all as soon as you can.

Sometimes being stricter has it’s perks, but then again, Shaw knew what he was doing. I believe Erik is more used to working alone than anything else.

It’s not so bad to be busy.

But I can’t agree with the idea that Shaw knew - or knows, if that person who claims now to be him even is Shaw - ‘knew what he was doing.’ Or, rather, that what he was doing was in the interests of Mutants at all. I’ve taken some time to think about it, and it seems to me now that Shaw was only ever out for Shaw.

And look, comrade, have you sat down and really talked to Erik - asked him what he knows about Shaw?

“um… I think ‘very stressed’ is an appropriate description…”

Stressed? Why stressed? Has there been some trouble?

“Let’s see. Erik’s moving to Ireland. Shaw came back from the dead. Janos left to join him. I’m sure he’s planning some ridiculous world domination that will leave all of us dead. Add that to being pregnant on top of it all, yeah. I’d say there’s been some trouble.”

“I see…” Azazel said slowly, blinking. “Normally, I would recommend vodka… but you’re pregnant? Apparently.”

He paused, frowning. “I was aware of the situation with Shaw - something’s going to have to be done about that, obviously - and Janos, but Erik has left for Ireland? Why?”
